Roman Reigns Vs All

Roman Reigns Vs All

By Justin Blakeman

In early December WWE was facing one of the worst wrestling dry spells I have seen in recent memory. It seemed like they were consistently putting out terrible TV programs and they face a roster that was decimated by injury and wrestlers taking time off. WWE had to do something drastic and they finally did just that. They decided to put the title on the line during their flagship program Monday Night Raw. After nearly a crushing defeat, at last, year's Wrestle Mania and a number of other failed attempts, Roman Reigns finally overcame the Authority and a terrible Daniel Bryan like story line to win the WWE World Heavy Weight Championship. This move was met with mixed reactions from the WWE Universe but for, the most part I would say people have been relatively positive about the title change. Roman has been on a warpath since the last pay per view where he laid out HHH (who has not returned to TV yet).  For the last few weeks, he has been feuding with the boss of the company Mr. McMahon. This feud has been dominated by a cocky and confident Roman Reigns but he may have finally met his match after outsmarting Mr. McMahon this week on Raw.

It was revealed after the main event that Roman Reigns would be defending his WWE Title against not one but 40 men as the winner of the Royal Rumble would become the new WWE Champion. This was a very unexpected move by WWE and it is a move that could pay off huge for them or leave them looking very silly. At first, I was really excited by the idea of the Royal Rumble match being for the WWE Title. This is not something WWE does very often and it seem like a fresh idea and a great challenge for Roman Reigns. The idea, in theory, opens the door up for a number of interesting new champions. We know that names like Chris Jerhico, John Cena, Dean Ambrose, Bray Wyatt, and we assume Brock Lesnar will be involved in the Royal Rumble. Any of those guys and many more that I did not list would be really interesting champions and I could see WWE throwing in a swerve ball and crowning a random new champion at the pay per view. The uncertainty of the match really boosts my excitement for it! On the other hand, I can see them just giving the match to Roman and having him win for the second year in a row.

I like Roman Reigns and I am by no means a Roman heater but I personally don't want to see him win the Royal Rumble again. I would have rather WWE had him keep the title and continue feuding with Sheamus or whoever than to have him be an odds-on favorite to win. I was really looking forward to some big surprise returns and having a random unexpected winner like maybe Daniel Byran or Brock Lesnar. If I had a dream pick it would be Samoa Joe or Finn Balor but that would be a major long shot.

All that being said I am still really looking forward to the Royal Rumble and I can't wait to see what WWE has in store for the match. They have done a really good job making the odds seem stacked against Roman and I think it will be a good opportunity to tell a solid story leading up to this years Wrestle Mania. Win or lose I think this title run has really helped Roman and I think his new kick A$$ and ask questions later character works for him. It would seem that WWE has finally gotten him over and found a star for the future.
