Raw Review: Sting has a match on Raw??
By Justin Blakeman
So This was the big Season Premier of of Monday Night Raw. The night really kicked off with a bang! The Authority came out and announced that for the first time ever the Icon Sting would be in the main event of Monday Night Raw! They hyped the match up and told us that he would be facing The Big Show in his first match on Raw. They announced that the Tag Titles would be on the line in the first match of the night. New Day made their entrance and began to dance with Stephanie which was great but it got better when Triple H got into the ring and began to do his best Vince dance!!! This was the show stealing moment of the show in my opinion and it happened in the first 5 minuets of the show.
The following match was pretty good and we were treated to a number of New Day's goofy antics through out the whole match. New Day won to retain their titles and they were confronted by the Dudley's to set the tone for their match on Sunday. I think its funny how New Day is week in and week out the best part of Raw. They are never not entertaining and they never have a flat moment. I really hope they win the titles on Sunday because I am ready for a long New Day vs The Dudley's feud for the titles. I am also not ready to see them go back to jobbing. They are far to entertaining for that and they need to be on TV every week.
The rest of the show kinda went down hill after the first segment. There was a match between Paige and Sasha Banks which was a solid match but at this point I am ready for something new. I hope they end the team feud portion of the Diva's Revolution soon. I am ready for some new fresh matches. That being said the match between Nikki and Charlotte was very good while it lasted. They ended up having Brie get involved for the twin magic bit, She was rolled up for the win. Stephanie came out and reversed the call giving the title back to Nikki. So that means Nikki is now the longest reigning Diva's Champion of all time...... which is one of the hardest things I have ever had to type. Nikki has had some good matches during her title run but I think its ridiculous that she has not been forced to defend that title. This was the absolute wrong decision, WWE had the opportunity to put the title on a fan favorite and have a really special moment with the Flairs on Raw. They instead chose to have a garbage gimmick finish. I am sure Charlotte will win the belt on Sunday but it honestly won't feel as special.
John Cena beat Sheamus which was no surprise to any one. I honestly cant figure out what they are doing with Sheamus, they want to make him seem a threat to the WWE World Heavy Weight Championship but they continue to have him lose to guys like Orton and Cena. Loses make guys seem weak and loses hurt guys who are trying to act tough. I don't understand why WWE can't figure that out.
The rest of Raw was pretty uneventful until the main event. Sting and Big Show made their entrances and began to battle it out. After maybe 3 minuets Rollins ran down to the ring and began to attack Sting. This lead to the DQ and the beat down of Sting. John Cena came to Sting's rescue which lead to a tag match being set up by Triple H. The tag match was a bit slow but it was still cool see Sting on Raw in a match. The faces eventually went over as Sting put on the scorpion death lock for the win. Seth rolled out of the ring to sell the move which lead to the show ending stair down.
This Raw was not the worst one of the year but it wasn't terribly exciting either. I think it was better than the last few weeks have been but they didn't do a lot to sell me on Night of Champions. So far it looks like it will be a fun pay-per-view but I can also see it being a big flop. The highlights of the pay-per-view will be the Sting and Rollins match, the reveal of the mystery partner for Dean Ambrose and Roman Reigns and finally will John Cena win the U.S Title back. I am also intrigued by the IC title match. I like Ryback but I really hope Owens walks away with the title. I hope once he does win that WWE will book him properly and not just have him job out to everyone on Raw.
I hope you enjoyed this episode of Raw and I hope you are ready for the pay-per-view this weekend. I know I am ready, it feels like it has been months between pay-per -views. Thanks for reading and following along on twitter if you did!
