Could this be the New Golden
Age of Wrestling?
By Justin Blakeman
The 1980’s have
always been considered The Golden Age of Wrestling. It was the first time
wrestling was broadcast on national television. The true Mega Powers (not
Sandow and Axel) were running around dropping elbows and legs on anyone and
everyone OOOOOH YEAH Brother!
Ultimate Warrior was cutting his crazy promos and running as fast as he could
to the ring to defeat his next foe! It was truly a remarkable time in pro
wrestling. But what if I told you I think there could be a new golden era of
wrestling?
Many people may think
I am crazy but I think this is the new
golden era of wrestling. There is so much potential in not only WWE but in
ROH, New Japan and even Lucha Underground. All the previously mention
organizations have taken huge steps to strengthen their products, and it’s
paying off handsomely for them and us! Lets look at WWE and their product
first. For the last few years WWE has really focused on recruiting the best
talent from around the world. We are just now beginning to see the fruits of
Triple H and William Regal’s hard labor. He is just a quick list of the guys
that have joined WWE over the last few years Sami Zayn, Kevin Steen (Kevin
Owens), Adrian Neville (Jungle Pac),
Dean Ambrose (John Moxley), Seth Rollin (Tyler Black), Finn Balor (Prince
Devitt) and last but not least Samoa Joe!
I’m sure I could have
kept that list going on for a little bit longer but you get the point, WWE is
doing a great job! That list is a who’s who of what the Internet wrestling community
calls “Indy Guys”. Those guys came from every part of the world and they all came to one company. The crazy part is they will all be impacting the roster at the same time. This is
truly and exciting time for wrestling fans. My prediction is that once all
these guys get on the main roster, WWE will have a huge resurgence with their product. Im not just talking about the normal wrestling fans, I'm talking main stream attention! Much like what we saw during the Attitude Era. This resurgence however will be based on
WRESTLING not PG-13 antics. All those guys mention above can flat out wrestle. They are all
capable of going out and putting on Match of the Year quality matches every
night. This point was proven this past
Sunday at WWE’s Elimination Chamber pay-per-view when Kevin Owens faced John
Cena in what can only be called the best match of the year so far. In my
opinion its up there with best matches I have seen! What an impact Kevin Owens
has already had on WWE programing and he has only been there for 2 weeks!
Another thing WWE had done is really push their developmental brand NXT. NXT is where new WWE stars are born. Since HHH was given the reigns over NXT it has been a brilliant wrestling show. Some would even say that NXT rivals Raw for the best wrestling show on tv. That is huge praise for the "youngsters". That praise is not just blind internet hype either, NXT consistently puts on amazing shows. NXT just finished up a very successful live tour and WWE hopes to make NXT a stand alone brand in the next few years.
The success in pro wrestling is not limited to WWE many other organizations are beginning to show signs of
life in 2015. Ring of Honor just signed a National television deal with
Destination America which could possibly make them the second largest wrestling
program in the United States! New Japan has begun to work its way over to the
United State by teaming with Ring of Honor and Global Force wresting. Speaking
of Global Force Wrestling, they have just announced a star studded roster and
live event dates so its only a matter of time before they are in the mix to.
With all this change
and growth in the wrestling industry I think we are in a new “Wrestling
Boom”. It’s only a matter of time before
wrestling takes the world by force yet again, just like it did during the
Golden Era and the Attitude Era. This era is going to be outstanding. If Kevin
Owens match with John Cena was a sign, I can’t wait to watch it all unfold! The
New Golden Era has begun and it’s only getting started so sit back and enjoy
the ride!!!
