Smackdown Lowdown 5/28/15

THIS IS THE GO HOME SHOW FOR ELIMINATION CHAMBER ON SUNDAY. LETS SEE WHAT WWE HAS IN STORE TO HYPE UP WHAT ALREADY LOOKS LIKE A GREAT SHOW ON SUNDAY!

Opening:

  • Tonights Smackdown is being kicked off from none other than Dean Ambrose! He started off by addressing what happened on Monday. He talk about using his one call to call his brother Roman Reigns. He talked about using the you tube video of Seth Rollins pushing the camera man to get himself out of jail. Apparently he is best buds with the NYPD and they let him use the Police vehicle to get back to the area. He finished off his promo by saying the AGE OF AMBROSE BEGINS on Sunday!

JB's Opinion: The explanation story for how Dean got back to the area on monday was just as silly as the way he got back. Fortunately it was Dean Ambrose delivering the story and I found it to be entertaining anyway. Not a bad opening to Smackdown I like the push Dean is getting and he is very over right now. I have to wonder if that line "my only friend" is hinting at a Roman Heel turn somewhere down the road. It just looks like they are setting up for a Dean vs Roman feud. Mark my words they are building something!

Match 1: Lucha Dragons vs Kidd and Cesaro in a tag team lumber jack match:

  •  I have never been a fan of the lumber jack match concept. It never fails that the match always ends flat. This match started off a little slow but I think that was because the crowd was terrible. They didn't seem to be into the match at all in the early going. Kalisto, Kidd and Cesaro really worked hard in the early going to get the crowd fired up. Kalisto brought out a nice arsenal of moves. He really is fun to watch. The lumber jacks never really did there job here, every time someone went over the ropes all they did was throw them back in. I thought the point was the lumber jacks beat up the guys who get thrown out? There was a lot of back and forth action between both teams toward the end. New Day got involved by distracting Cesaro. After some more action it ended up being Kidd and Kalisto in the ring which ended in Kalisto getting the win.

Winner: Lucha Dragons

JB's Opinion: Not a bad match to open up smack down. The guys really worked their butts off for the whole match. Kalisto has a great move set that is really exciting. The fans didn't seem to be very vocal for the match but it was honestly a solid match. I think the tag team elimination chamber match has the potential to be a great match! It's a fresh twist on the EC match and I cant wait.

Match 2: R-Truth vs King Barrett:

  • Barrett came out swining early on in the match. He took control early and slowed the match down with some ground moves. Barrett continued to be up Truth, he went for the Bull Hammer but R-truth reversed it into a pin. Barrett kicked out and R-Truth hit his finisher to get the win. After the match R-Truth began to celebrate but he was quickly kicked by Sheamus. Sheamus then kicked Barrett and posed for the boos.

Winner: R-Truth

JB's Opinion: Since when did R-Truth get that kind of reaction? He got a pop for his intro and when he won. I don't have any problem with that, R-Truth is a like able character just odd for him to get over like that. He even cut a solid video promo that was shown during his entrance. He talked tough and didn't mention any stupid bugs, just him talking. It was nice to see a serious R-Truth. The match it's self was ok just a short match to build a little story for the IC match on Sunday. I like Sheamus coming down and cleaning house. He is really looking like a monster heel lately. Here's to hoping they continue this on Sunday. I wouldn't mind seeing a long heel Sheamus IC title run.

  Match 3: Rusev vs Ryback:

  • They guys start of the match with a hug fest and a few head locks. Rusev fought back and hit Ryback with a few shoulder blocks but the big guy wouldn't go down. Ryback came back with a big boot and took over in the match. Rusev made a mini comeback only to be over powered by Ryback again. Ryback actually held Rusev up in a suplex for quite a while before dropping him down. Finally Rusev took the upper hand and began beating down Ryback with power punches and kicks (stomps). The crowd began chanting we want Lana which got under Rusev's skin. He used that to power his attacks until Ryback tossed him hover the ropes. The two battled out side trading attacks as the show went to commercial break. As soon as the show returned from the break. The announcers drew attention to Rusev's hurt ankle. We know now that he legitimately hurt his angle in this match. Rusev rolled out of the ring and it was obvious that he could not stand. Ryback come out and Rusev sent him into the ring post multiple times drawing the DQ.

Winner: Ryback (by DQ)

JB's Opinion: This was a pretty good match for the two big guys. Both men worked well together and had great pace during the match. I have to give some props to Rusev  who clearly hurt his ankle when he went over the ropes and fell to the out side. He spent the last few minuets of that match limping around badly. You knew it was bad when he went to make a move and just crumbled to the ground and rolled out of the ring. I have a lot of respect for the guy after seeing him try to finish the match on the bummed ankle.

Match 4: Paige vs Naomi:

The match started off with the girls playing around a little bit. More like Naomi running around avoiding Paige. Paige got in a few good hits causing Naomi to go out side. Naomi got her hands on Paige and slammed her arm into the ring post. She then began to focus all her attacks on the weakened arm of Paige. The pace of the match really slowed as Naomi focused her attacks on the arm. Paige finally made a come back as she began to throw kicks every where. Naomi went for a flying cross body, but Paige caught her in mid air. She then hit Naomi with her finisher and won the match. After the match the Bella twins came down to the ramp and taunted Paige and Naomi as the commentators hyped up their match at EC.

Winner: Paige

JB's Opinion: Not a bad match from the ladies. They told a decent story with the amount of time they were given (Which wasn't much). I like the fact that Paige went over here and made a strong showing with the come back win. Nikki has been doing really well in her recent matches and we all know Paige and Naomi can wrestle so I have high hopes for this match on Sunday. I don't think it will be NXT Women's match good but I think it will be a solid match.

Kevin Owens Smackdown Debut:

  • Owens delivers like always! I loved when he listed off all of John Cena's accomplishments, it shows that he know his opponent and that he is taking it seriously. The line about John having 57 different terrible t-shirts was hilarious! I really hope Owens gets the win on Sunday. I know in my heart of hearts that there is no way he walks away with the win but Im hoping! I have no doubt that he will be put over win or lose. I feel like this is a push that should have him walk out looking amazing, otherwise why have him come up to just get squashed?

Match 5: Dean Ambrose & Roman Reigns vs Seth Rollins and Kane:

  • The match started off with Rollins getting the best of Roman Reigns and making quick tags to Kane to keep up the momentum. The show cuts to break as Kane and Rollins continue the beat down. When the show returns we see Dean Ambrose being beaten up by J&J on the out side of the ring. They throw in back in the ring and Kane takes over. Dean made a short comeback only to be dropped by Kane who tags out to Rollins. Seth knocks Roman off the ropes and takes down Ambrose who is lead to the enemy corner where every one beats him up while the ref is distracted by Reigns (who is trying to get in to help). Dean is thrown out of the ring to J&J who beat him up a little and try to throw him back in. Dean does his little rope spin move and comes back at them with a double clothes line. Dean makes the hot tag and Roman comes in and starts cleaning house. He beats up Seth and goes for the Superman punch, Kane blocks it with a choke hold only to be attacked by Dean. Dean throws Kane out of the ring allowing Roman and Seth to have a few good exchanges ending in a Superman punch. J&J interrupts the pin causing a DQ.  Dean then takes out Kane and J&J. He goes for Rollins but Kane calls in New Day for help. Reigns flies over the top rope and takes every one out. Xavier Woods is the first one up and he gets in the ring and begins to celebrate. This sets off a number of big finishing moves form the Baby faces and heels. It ended with Seth and Kane beating down Dean, Seth hits Dean with the Pedigree and celebrates to close the show.
Winner: Dean and Reigns

JB's Opinion: Not a bad closing to the show. There was a lot of back and forth action at the end of the match and the angle with New Day coming down to help was cool. I liked all the action after the match, especially the superman punch on a flying Kofi! It was literally out of no where. I like that Seth got to stand tall at the end of the show. He has come out on the short end of the stick lately in his encounters with Dean. It was nice to see him get the upper hand for a change.

Show Review: Not a bad Smackdown overall. The show had a good pace and almost every match was decent. I like the small amount of building they did to the story lines for Elimination Chamber. They didn't really do anything that made me want to watch EC but they didn't do anything that made me not want to watch it either. I feel like Elimination Chamber has enough hype already, they honestly didn't have to do much to sell it. It is shaping up to be one of the better " pay per views" of the year (so far).

Thanks for watching along and until next time wrestling fans!
