The Champ is Out So What Happens Now?

In case you have not heard the news WWE World Heavy Weight Champion Seth Rollins suffered a knee injury while performing at a house show this week. WWE just kicked off their latest European tour and it looks like things didn't go quite as planed. During a match with Demon Kane on Wednesday night Rollins fell awkwardly on his knee and had to be helped to the back. At first Rollins was said to have tweeked his knee and it looked like he was going to be able to keep performing with his knee wrapped. That unfortunately seemed to be wishful thinking as it was announced today that Rollins had actually suffered an MCL and ACL tear. WWE just announced on their website that Rollins will be out for 6 to 9 months. In the same article WWE announced that there will be a tournament held at Survivor Series and the winner will be crowned the WWE World Heavy Weight Champion.
What does this mean for Seth Rollins? Unfortunately it looks like he will more than likely miss Wrestle Mania this year. Rollins has had one heck of a year! Actually he has had one of the better years of any wrestler that I can remember. There were a ton of different ways his great year could have ended but I personally never saw an injury as one of the possibilities. WWE had Rollins booked in the Title picture all the way up to Mania and I believe he would have held the title all the way up to the event.
Rollins injury comes at a very troubling time for WWE, with John Cena out for a side project, Randy Orton out healing from an injury of his own and Brock Lesnar out due to his contract restrictions; WWE in theory has no one to turn to as their torch bearer. This is partially their own fault, after months of poor creative decisions WWE has no big name starts to turn to in this time of need. Names like Bray Wyatt, Dean Ambrose, Kevin Owens, Dolph Ziggler, Sheamus, and Cesaro could have all been fantastic choices for the open WWE Title but all these guys have been hurt by poor booking and constant losses. From what I am hearing WWE is not big on placing the title on any of these guys. So who will win the title at Survivor Series?
I have two possibilities that could answer that question. One is none other than the Beast him self, Brock Lesnar! Brock is currently off WWE TV and was suppose to be off until the Royal Rumble pay-per-view. WWE could pony up and pay Brock extra money for more dates. I honestly think this will be the option WWE goes with. The other option WWE has is Roman Reigns. WWE has been slowly building Reigns for a title run all year. They have been giving him solid story lines and they have protected him in all of his feuds. Roman has recovered from the fan backlash he received last year after WWE pushed him to the big time stardom. His promos have gotten better and his matches have been on point all year. He is ready for a title run and while some fans will not be happy with him winning, I think it would be a great opportunity for WWE to create a new star.
It remains to be seen what WWE will do in the absence of its champion. The next few weeks will be very exciting! The tournament for the title should make for some excellent television and story lines. I hope Seth Rollins makes a quick recovery and I hope he comes back sooner than later. I think he has the work ethic and the drive to make a quick recovery and I think he could have a return similar to the one HHH had after his quad injury.
I don't know about you I can't wait for the FUTURE of the WWE to return and the clock starts now!
